Doran led the ACT with 19 points and four assists in an 87-71 loss to the NBA Global Academy in Basketball Australia's under 20s national championships in Gosford on Saturday.

But it wasn't that performance that had people talking - it was Doran's 44-point massacre in an 85-84 win against Tasmania on Thursday that has been turning heads.

Some believe it's the best individual haul by an ACT player at any national tournament since San Antonio Spurs guard Mills was wearing blue and gold.

Mills was a staple in ACT representative teams and won the Bob Staunton Award for player of the under 20s tournament in 2006 and 2007.

Doran enjoyed a breakout season in 2017, going from ACT Premier League Two to a SEABL starter with the Canberra Gunners in less than 12 months.

The ACT has not won a men's under 20s title since the tournament began in 1974, while the lone women's championship triumph came in 1986.

Those droughts will continue after the men's side came away with a lone victory, while the women's side had one win up their sleeve leading into a clash with South Australia on Saturday night.

They weren't the only ACT teams competing at the national titles, with two sides representing the territory in the Ivor Burge championship - national tournaments for players with intellectual disabilities.

The ACT's Ivor Burge under 20 men's team enjoyed a comprehensive 123-39 victory over Western Australia before being beaten 137-55 by Victoria on Saturday.

The Ivor Burge women's side fared slightly better but couldn't get the job done, falling 64-41 to an impressive Victorian outfit.
