Rebecca McConnell held the lead early but faded to finish fourth and just over two seconds outside medal contention, crossing the line in 1:31:53 in the elite women's event won by Wellington's Samara Sheppard.
Dan McConnell says his "body never really got going" as he came fifth (1:28.34) in the elite men's category, with Christchurch rider Anton Cooper claiming gold.
Rebecca McConnell took to Instagram to thank her supporters and says she doesn't have much time to dwell on the result with an Australian championship defence looming.
"I don't have a lot of positives to take from my race today but I'm going to have to turn it around pretty quickly because I really love my Aussie Champs jersey and I have to fight for it in 2 weeks time," McConnell wrote.
