Canberra Heat taking risks with Australia Volleyball League finals berth secured

The Canberra Heat have already locked in a men's Australian Volleyball League finals berth with six games remaining in the season.

An unbeaten start to their campaign has opened the door for Heat coach Les Young to "take risks" and tinker with his squad on the run to the finals.

The Canberra men's side has won 10 from 10 to start the season and Young hopes testing some new combinations will have them primed to launch a serious championship tilt.

"It's a fantastic effort, a real team effort," Young said.

"Our leadership team of Marty Collins, Jack Connell and Jordan Power are playing exceptional volleyball. They are inspiring the rest of the men, especially our younger players, to really step up. Our intensity has been impressive.

"Knowing we have made the finals allows me to take more risks as a coach, try new things, different combinations and give our bench players more court time.

"By the time the finals come around in December we will have more experience and depth on our bench. A luxury any coach would want. It really gives us the competitive advantage as we head into the finals."

Canberra continues it's men's campaign against the Centre of Excellence at the AIS on Tuesday night, while the women's outfit faces the same opposition on Wednesday.
