Former Australian Matildas player Heather Garriock appointed Canberra United head coach

Former Matildas player Heather Garriock has been appointed the job of taking Canberra United back to the W-League's promised land.

Garriock was announced as the club's new head coach on Monday, ending a three-month search for a new mentor after Rae Dower announced she would depart following United's heartbreaking semi-final loss to Melbourne City in February.

The former Australian assistant coach has 130 international caps to her name on an impressive resume boasting three World Cups and two Olympic Games appearances.

Garriock has spent the past three seasons coaching Sydney University's women's team and achieving her fair share of success in the NSW Women's National Premier League.

The W-League's most successful club, Canberra won the 2016-17 premiership but failed to add a third championship to the trophy cabinet after bowing out in the semi-finals.
