Canberra's Latin dance queen Raquel Paez will lead some of the nation's best performers in a three-day festival from Friday, when the capital turns to the rhythm of Latin beats.

October 19 will mark the first day of the inaugural Canberra Latin Dance Festival, which will feature a series of performances and workshops led by world and national Latin dance champions.
There will be live music and the festival promises to give people a perfect opportunity to experience Latin expression and dance.
Festival director Ms Paez said this was the perfect time for such a festival to be held in Canberra.
''The Latin dance scene in Canberra has grown exponentially over the last five years and all the local dance schools are taking part in the festival,'' she said.
''We hope this will be a catalyst to encourage more people to discover Latin dance.''
The festival is being supported by the ACT government and will be held at the Australian National University sports and recreation facility.
Internationally acclaimed Latin dancer Jaime Jesus will take the role of master of ceremonies and will hold workshops, as well as performing at the event.
''The festival is a great event for people of all ages who want a taste of Latin culture - you don't even need to know how to dance to come along and have a good time,'' he said.
