Ten firefighters from the ACT have joined the Victorian Country Fire Authority to help battle a noxious blaze at a rubbish tip in Somerton, in Melbourne's outer north.

Three units were deployed to help bring the fire under control on Sunday.
The inferno is believed to have been sparked by lightning during an intense storm on Friday morning and spread over an area about 100 metres wide and 10 metres high.
On Friday, around 100 firefighters and a water-bombing helicopter attempted to contain the rubbish dump blaze, about half of which was said to have been extinguished by Saturday afternoon.
Local fire authorities issued a Watch and Act message to surrounding residents due to the amount of smoke issuing from the fire.
The warning level has since been dropped and authorities had been monitoring air quality in surrounding suburbs.
Predicted mild conditions until mid-week means the deployment will not impact on Canberra's ability to respond to a large fire, a spokesperson from the ACT Emergency Services Agency said.
The ACT firefighters are expected to remain in Victoria until Wednesday.
