A report by the territory's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander elected body has found that less than 1 per cent of the staff in some government directorates are indigenous people.
The Chief Minister and Treasury directorate was the worst performing in the report, with indigenous Australians accounting for just 0.66 per cent of its workforce. But the Community Services and Environment and Sustainable Development directorates had exceeded the target at 3 per cent and 2.6 per cent.
The figures follow an inquiry late last year, in which Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander public servants spoke of racist taunts and bullying in their workplaces. The elected body chairman, Rod Little, said change was needed to ''thinking of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people working only in the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or social program areas".
