The ACT government is seeking compensation from the federal government over $2 million spent remediating houses that missed the Mr Fluffy loose-fill asbestos clean-up program.

Under a memorandum of understanding signed between the two jurisdictions upon ACT self-government, the Commonwealth agreed to indemnify the territory against all future claims arising from the program.
While some money has been received from the federal government, no funds have been recovered since 2005, 12 years since the program ended.
The ACT government has spent about $2 million since 2005 remediating homes that missed the $100 million clean-up program.
The loose asbestos insulation removal program, carried out from 1988 to 1993, remediated 1050 homes identified as containing the deadly form of asbestos.
The asbestos had been pumped into homes as insulation by a company trading in the region as Mr Fluffy. Since the program ended, the ACT government has remediated four homes that were missed by the program - in Watson (1996), Lyons (2007), Mawson (2009) and Downer (2013).
The Bradfield Street property in Downer was encased in a giant plastic bubble last year while the loose-fill asbestos was removed and the house deconstructed.
The land was sold at auction in December, recouping more than $600,000 for the government from its estimated $2 million cost.
Documents returned to The Canberra Times in rejecting its FOI request for the list of 1050 Mr Fluffy homes show the ACT government has negotiated recently with the federal government over enforcing the memorandum of understanding.
''Negotiations were progressing under the former Commonwealth government but appear to have stalled following the election,'' the document said.
''The chief minister is seeking to revive the negotiations''.
A spokesman for Industrial Relations Minister Simon Corbell said the government had received funding before 2005 and had negotiated with the Commonwealth before the change of government in 2013.
Meanwhile, the ACT's asbestos experts have been busy in recent weeks following up the ACT government's letter to owners of the Mr Fluffy homes, warning of the possibility of residual fibres.
At least 30 homes checked by testers in the past few weeks have been found to contain residual Mr Fluffy asbestos.
