The association that represents officers says it is providing legal funding to officers who claim they have been bullied.
Some of them even allege senior managers have done the bullying, according to the AFPA's president Jon Hunt Sharman, who says a bullying culture has developed in the past 3½ years.
Mr Hunt Sharman pointed to the latest results from five years of Police at Work studies into law enforcement across Australia - including the AFP, which polices the ACT - which showed the AFP ranked the lowest in terms of fair treatment and trust in management.
''The AFPA has referred the findings of the independent study to AFP Wellbeing Services for their information and action,'' Mr Hunt Sharman said.
''In regards to allegations of bullying in the workplace, the AFPA cannot comment on specific cases but is providing legal funding to some individual members.
''There is no excuse for bullying in the AFP or any other workplace. The AFPA will not tolerate bullying, victimisation or adverse action against AFP employees. Any member who has a legitimate complaint will be supported by the AFPA, our legal team and me personally.''
An AFP spokeswoman said fair treatment of all staff was a high priority and that the AFP did not tolerate misconduct such as bullying.
The spokeswoman said Comcare had accepted 10 compensation claims for work-related harassment or workplace bullying since the start of 2011.
''It should be noted that acceptance by Comcare of a claim for work-related harassment and/or workplace bullying is not necessarily evidence that an incident of work-related harassment and or workplace bullying has occurred,'' she said.
''It is only necessary for an incident to have occurred, whether it was work-related harassment and/or workplace bullying or not, and the incident has created a perception in the mind of the employee.''
The AFP does not compile statistics on complaints raised with regards to alleged unfair promotions.
