While the weather certainly made it unpleasant outdoors, it did not hamper the buying spirit as auctions were held in the spacious and warm indoor living areas.
A brand new four-bedroom home in Weston was sold for $865,000.
The owners of the contemporary and chic residence at 10 Fereday Street had taken about two years to build the property but a change of plans had them put it on the market.
The home offered a functional single level layout with indoor and outdoor living, and superior inclusions such as in-slab and ducted heating, gourmet stone kitchen, stylish floor to ceiling tiled bathroom, and a covered outdoor entertaining area.
McGrath auctioneer Hugh Rainger accepted an opening bid of $800,000 before three parties made increasing offers in increments of about $5000.
It finally went to Tuggeranong couple Peter and Catherine Hill.
Mr Hill said they had family who were moving into Coombs and they had been looking to relocate into the area from Macarthur, where they have lived for 19 years.
"We fell in love with the place the first time we saw it," he said.
The couple liked the modern nature of the home and the open style and spaces.
McGrath Woden sales agent Mark McCann said there had been about 50 to 60 inspecting groups during the campaign and four people had registered to bid.
He said the area was attracting a lot of people who wanted single-level living – often moving from large two-storey homes in Woden and Weston Creek.
Mr McCann said the sale price was above expectations and there had been strong bidding at the auction.
The price guide had been set at offers above $780,000.
The highest sale price achieved at auction for the day was for a Gleneagles home at 24 James Scott Close.
The home sold for $1,002,500 through Luton Properties Tuggeranong agent Christine Bassingthwaighte.
The custom designed and privately built home is located at the end of a cul-de-sac and was on the market for the first time.
