Bad blood motive in assault, court told

Natasha White, 18, and Shannah Sykes-Whiting, 21, appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Monday in connection with the assault and a hit-and-run on Sunday evening.

Police said the pair assaulted a teenager at a home in Campbell and damaged the house before leaving in a Holden Commodore, about 5.40pm.

Police were called and the girl was taken to Calvary hospital and treated for injuries following the alleged assault.

Later that evening, a man was allegedly hit on Limestone Avenue by a car matching the description of the vehicle connected to the earlier incident.

The man received first aid for injuries to his leg.

Police conducted an extensive search and located the two women in Braddon.

The pair were arrested and taken to the ACT watch house where they were charged with assault and possessing a knife.

Sykes-Whiting, of Campbell, was also charged with driving while disqualified.

White, of Campbell, was charged with driving in a manner dangerous. Neither of the women entered pleas.

The prosecution opposed bail.

Paul Edmonds, acting for White, said the incident was sparked by bad blood over an ex-boyfriend.

Mr Edmonds admitted the facts didn't read well for his client.

''[But] the normal conditions of not approaching [or harassing the complainants] … would appropriately deal with these concerns,'' Mr Edmonds said. ''The risk is negligible.''

Magistrate David Mossop noted neither woman had serious criminal histories. Mr Mossop granted both women bail on condition they each provide a $500 surety.

Ms White will reappear later this month. Ms Sykes-Whiting will reappear in January.
