Police were called to scrub off Agar Street, near Ginninderra Drive at about 2pm and discovered the human remains.
In a statement released on Saturday evening, ACT Policing said a postmortem examination would be conducted to determine both the cause of death and identity of the dead person.
At time of publication, no details had been released about the person's sex or age, nor how long the body had been dead by the time it was discovered.
The bushland in which it was discovered backs onto the eastern approach to GIO Stadium, which was busy with traffic in the afternoon ahead of a rugby union game.
An ACT Policing spokeswoman said officers would inform next-of-kin after the body was identified.
Investigations are continuing and police have urged anyone with information about the discovery to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via act.crimestoppers.com.au.
