Brindabella staff were informed on Monday that their jobs no longer existed, just one week after the airline had gone into receivership.

Receiver KordaMentha had hoped to get a quick sale but said it was now very unlikely there would be any sale at all.

But there was good news for most of the airline's former pilots on Tuesday, when Regional Express, or Rex, announced it would be hiring 14 pilots.

A spokeswoman for Rex confirmed that they would be offered places at the ground school in February and if they passed would join the new airline as pilots. ''They'll have to undergo training on our simulators to be ready to fly our aircraft,'' she said.

She said Rex was always looking for pilots and the successful applicants would be informed sometime this week.

Rex was the latest in the line of people trying to find jobs for the displaced Brindabella workers.

On Monday, ACT Chief Minister Katy Gallagher announced she was writing to Qantas, Virgin and Jetstar to ask them to take on the former staff, while Rolfe Subaru in Canberra said it would offer two former employees a job.

KordaMentha receiver Sebastian Hams said on Monday the company would be assisting the Brindabella Airlines staff to find work in whatever way it could.

A spokesman for KordaMentha said on Tuesday: ''We know Rex has been speaking to a number of Brindabella pilots over the last few days and now that receivers are unable to sell the airlines anybody who is able to hire any Brindabella staff is great news,'' he said.

''Our concern now is just trying to sell the remaining assets, which is mainly the four J-41 planes and help the employees apply for their entitlements.''

Qantas and Virgin have said any other former Brindabella staff were encouraged to apply for jobs.
