Winner Geoffrey Howe took a great landscape at the National Arboretum near Mount Stromlo.
''I like the way the fog simplifies the whole view of the landscape. It removes a lot of the clutter and gives clarity to the landscape,'' he said.
He said he liked the mysterious nature of the image.
Mr Howe captured the shot with a Canon 60D camera and was very pleased with his success, having taken up photography again a few years ago after a long break.
Second was Jonathan Guppy, who captured a beautiful view from Kings Avenue Bridge with his Canon G10 camera.
''It was a very foggy morning and we were just walking and exercising around the lake and I happened to see this,'' he said. ''I generally take photos wherever I am. I have my camera with me all the time.''
He said he liked the composition in his photo of the three kayakers in relation to the building in the background.
In a stunning example of macro photography, third prize went to Tim Leach for his image of a three-millimetre snowflake.
''It's just an interest of mine, I've been taking these things for quite a long time now,'' he said. ''For about two years I've been working out the technique of how to do it.''
He took the photo at sunrise on a cold morning in Evatt, using a Canon FTb digital SLR camera.
