Canberra apprentices win national training awards

Three Canberra apprentices have topped their peers across Australia in vocational education at the 2014 Australian Training Awards, announced in Adelaide on Friday.

Australian School-based Apprentice of the Year Eylish Perry, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year Sally Moylan and Australian Apprenticeships Employer Award recipient Just Better Care Canberra were among ACT winners.

Former Canberra Institute of Technology employee Berwyn Clayton's contribution to vocational education training was also recognised with a lifetime achievement award.

During a 24-year career at CIT, Ms Clayton established the Centre Undertaking Research in Vocational Education in 1999, the only dedicated research centre within a TAFE institute at the time.
