About half of the auctions scheduled sold and several sold prior to the weekend.
There were seven registered bidders for a renovated and extended full brick home in Narrabundah which sold under the hammer on Saturday morning.
The rainy weather just held off as Ray White auctioneer Scott Jackson accepted an opening bid of $790,000 on the home at 22 Strzelecki Crescent.
Two parties then battled for the property as it was called on the market about $840,000.
It sold under the hammer for $875,000.
The four-bedroom home had been freshly painted and had original features maintained including high ceilings and sash windows.
It was on a 615 square metre block.
Agent Cory McPherson from Ray White Kingston said there was high demand for Narrabundah properties with buyers very keen to get into the area for the schools.
He said normally properties in the area were attracting about six or seven registered bidders and values had been going up.
“Definitely in the past six months it has increased without doubt, just driven by demand,” Mr McPherson said.
An executive family residence at 14 Howard Street in Torrens sold under the hammer for $921,000 through LJ Hooker Manuka agent Jane Kusetic.
The property attracted 14 registered bidders.
LJ Hooker Manuka principal Stephen Thompson said it was a good indicator there was a bit of depth to the market.
He said buyers were very keen on homes that had been fully renovated and had nothing more to do as they were time poor.
Richard Luton Properties principal Richard Luton said he had solid numbers of bidders at the agency’s auctions including two properties that attracted eight each.
“It seems to be the trend at the moment with limited stock on the market,” he said.
Mr Luton said while he expected the typical spring rush of property onto the market it didn’t necessarily mean there would be more buyers around.
There were eight registered bidders for a big home on a big block in Weetangera at 157 Springvale Drive.
The home sold for $995,000 through Peter Blackshaw Belconnen agent Peter Walker, who said the suburb was highly sought after.
