Parking times relaxed as Manuka prepares for ODI

There will be free buses and relaxed time restrictions on parking as Manuka gears up for an expected crowd of more than 11,000 people for Canberra’s first ever one-day international.

The day-night clash between Australia and the West Indies is the first time the Aussie team has ever played in the capital, and Cricket Australia is challenging Canberrans to turn out in force to prove the demand is there for future international clashes.

After a number of parking fines were reportedly issued during the one-day match between the Prime Minister’s XI and the West Indies last week, timed parking restrictions have been relaxed through large swaths of Kingston, Manuka and Barton.

But illegal parking and parking on verges will not be tolerated, and organisers are warning that parking inspectors will be on hand to issue fines where necessary.

Despite the changed parking conditions, organisers are encouraging ticketholders to leave their cars at home and take free public transport to the match.

Tickets for the event include free travel on any ACTION bus. There will also be special free shuttle services operating from the City and Woden bus interchanges, and through parts of the inner south.

After the PM's XI match last week, catering at the venue has also been increased to reduce wait times and excessive queues.

With a forecast sunny top of 30 degrees and a flat track offering good batting conditions, crowds can hope for another run fest  at the boutique venue, after more than 600 were scored in the Windies/PM's XI outing last week.

The match is scheduled to begin at 2.20pm.

      • Well done to the ACT Government and Cricket ACT for pulling Manuka Oval together for such an Epic event! You have done Canberra proud, I have just flown in to Canberra from MLB and the buzz in town is fantastic. Lets hope events like this turn this City around and those Canberran's who winge and whine about all that is wrong with this place move to Western Sydney and make way for some class acts.
BTW Well done on the lights, the new with the old is progressive.
