The resource is the territory's first contact point for all ACT government services.

It allows members of the public to voice feedback, complaints, service requests or inquiries and to ask tricky questions sometimes even the operator can't answer.

"Where can I buy lady beetle eggs?" is just one of the examples of what the staff who answer phones have heard, but there are plenty more unusual inquiries.

Lachlan Thomas has worked as a customer service officer for three years with Canberra Connect.

Mr Thomas said aside from the normal, everyday inquiries – "how do I renew my driver's licence?" – he's had quite a few from left field.

"You get nice, sweet old ladies who think they're calling directory assistance, or ask questions like, when's the next flight out of Canberra, or what are the good movies at the cinema," Mr Thomas said.

"You never know what to expect when you're taking a Canberra Connect phone call - it can literally be anything."

Polite and well-mannered, Mr Thomas said he was always very understanding.

"I'll try to help people as much as I possibly can … our main purpose is to give government services but we're more than happy to help where we can, and pull up that information if we need to."

Mr Thomas said one of his more interesting calls was when a a group of teenage boys decided to put on an impromptu rap performance over the ACTION bus phone line.

Other customer service officers have been on the receiving end of more obscure inquiries.

"The variety keeps it interesting and keeps you going. Helping people when they actually need help is satisfying as well," Mr Thomas said.
