That was almost three years ago - and Mrs Willis said her arms still ached for her baby.

"[I felt] shock and disbelief that lasted a couple of hours before it started to wear off and I actually started to cry and then a whole lot of emotions just takes over," Mrs Willis said.

"We had waited a really long time for her ... and to have her taken away like that is just devastating."

The family joined with a Queensland couple and donated a CuddleCot to Calvary Health to help parents of stillborn babies have more time to grieve the loss of their children.

A CuddleCot is a machine that allows stillborn babies to remain with the parents, potentially for days, after the delivery by keeping them cool, allowing parents to say their goodbyes.

In Australia, an estimated one in four pregnancies end in a miscarriage with almost 3000 babies stillborn or dying in the first 28 days.

Mrs Willis said she wanted to give other families the ability to hold their babies a little bit longer.

"I know how important time is and what it was like to not have it ... I just have so much compassion for other families going through the same loss and want them to have what they can, more than what we had."

She said time was not only important for grieving mothers, but for fathers and siblings.

"Dads who have waited all this time to meet that baby, they've seen kicking on the ultrasound screen and they've felt through their partners belly - it's important for dads too and siblings."

Mrs Willis said her family had set aside money for a CuddleCot but it was only about half of what was needed to purchase one.

Through a social media support group, the pair met Katie and Michael Dowling who lost their son, Shay, last year. The Queensland couple were able to spend time with him and grieve because of the CuddleCot.

"When we lost Shay, a family had donated a CuddleCot that we were able to use and we felt it was essential to pay that forward so we've taken this opportunity to donate this so that other families can have the same opportunities that we did," Mrs Dowling said.

"It gives parents the opportunity to create memories, our son Kieran was able to come along and spend some time with his little brother - he may not remember it in the future... but at least we have the photos and the memories that we can show him."

This is the second CuddleCot the Dowlings have donated.
