Everyone's favourite jukebox musical, and a world-wide smash hit, begins its national tour at the Canberra Theatre. Set to ABBA's timeless songs, a bride-to-be's quest to discover the identity of her father brings three men from her mother's past to her Greek island home. The new Australian production of Mamma Mia! stars Sarah Morrison, Natalie O'Donnell, and Alicia Gardiner. Previews start on Friday, with shows running until December 17. Spend a lazy Sunday afternoon in New Acton from noon, first shopping up a storm at the suitcase rummage, with plenty of vintage goods and handmade treasures for sale. Then head to the New Acton courtyard for the Canberra District Wine Tasting, with more than 45 wines from 13 local wineries ready to taste. There will also be live music, and food will be served at A. Baker and Parlour Wine Room, and wines by the bottle will be available at cellar door prices. Get into the Christmas spirit early and listen to Handel's Messiah, one of the world's most performed choral works. The Canberra Choral Society's Massed Choir and orchestra will fill Llewellyn Hall with music first performed in 1742. Leonard Weiss will conduct soloists soprano Greta Claringbould, baritone Jeremy Tatchell and one of the country's leading tenors Paul McMahon. Some of Canberra's best creatives come together to help Canberrans find the perfect locally-made Christmas gift at the Etsy Made Local market, part of a national one-day event. Live music will provided by the Busking Wheelie (Michael Cooke), songstress Kim Yang, and GhostNoises (Liam White). In addition to free face painting, there will be a number of food stalls including Grill-Ax, Bent Spoke brewery and Asian snacks from MoLchi. Canberra's Pride Festival Spring Out wraps up a month of festivities with a couple of blue ribbon events. The annual Bush Dance at Yarralumla Woolshed is sold out, but you can celebrate with the Canberra Gay and Lesbian Qwire at the Ainslie Arts Centre. One of Canberra's most well-known musical groups, the choir consists of about 80 members. Ahead of the group's 25th anniversary in 2018, the "Never Turning Back" concert will be a retrospective of their musical journey to date, performing some of their favourite songs from their early days as well as more modern classics. The Queanbeyan Swap Meet is on again - last year there were about 500 sites, and goods sold ranged from collectables, books, magazines and antiques to car parts. The swap meet will be running on Saturday and Sunday, in conduction with the Big 3 Car Show on Sunday. The show will showcase all types of Ford, G.M. and Chrysler vehicles and is run in conjunction with the American Car Nationals. Join one of two bus tours to visit renewable energy sites throughout the ACT and south east NSW region to mark Renewable Energy Day. The tours give unprecedented access to some of the world's most innovative renewable energy technologies and include travel to and from the sites, morning tea and lunch. Site managers and tour guides will present information about the renewable energy technologies and the sites visited.
