Former foreign minister Bob Carr's Diary of a Foreign Minister was among the most borrowed books from ACT libraries in 2014.
Stories transformed from page to silver screen also proved popular, with three of the other four most-borrowed books made into movies.
The other page-turners that piqued the interest of bookworms across the capital included The Fault in Our Stars by John Green, The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt, Divergent by Veronica Roth and The Book Thief by Markus Zusak.
The most requested DVDs in 2014 were Blue Jasmine, the complete second and third seasons of Game of Thrones, Life of Pi and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Life of Pi and Game of Thrones also made the top five in 2013.
Minister for Territory and Municipal Services Shane Rattenbury said about 3 million items were borrowed from ACT public libraries each year.
Close to 1.9 million visitors perused the aisles in the 2013-2014 financial year.
"The range of titles borrowed demonstrates the broad interests of the community that use our public libraries; a Pulitzer Prize winner, a political biography, dystopian fiction, and books whose popularity spiked with the release of movie adaptations all feature," he said.
