"Russian airmen, who have returned to the Black Sea after having reconnoitred the country, report that the Turks have concentrated in great strength on the coasts [near] Gallipoli. They have brought up a great quantity of heavy artillery."

Elsewhere in this edition, in a censorship-delayed report, a Special Correspondent testified that he'd watched an awesome "Dominion troops display" in the desert near Cairo.

"Every man, horse and vehicle of the New Zealand and Australian Division had been summoned to parade. A spectacle . . . columns of troops almost simultaneously came up out of the horizon, south, east and west."

He thought that "today's review showed that as far as equipment is concerned, both the Australians and New Zealanders are ready for battle".

Now, he mused, all that was needed was the chance for them to show that they could fight.

"Nothing but the supreme test of action against a determined enemy can now disclose [this], and all ranks are anxious for that ordeal by fire to come as soon as possible. They are beginning to chafe under continuous training and playing at war. They want to fight."

Today, we know that as Argus readers read that latter sentiment, lots of the reportedly chafing men were just hours away from having that desire to fight come terribly true.
