Years Active: Five
Members: Six, Adam Cook - keyboards/vocals, Matt Rankin - keyboards/samples/vocals, Zach Raffan - trumpets, Nicholas Combe - saxophones, Alec Coulson - bass and Jonathan Griffiths - drums, percussion.
Sound (How would you describe your sound): Classically inspired multi-genre with cartoon tendencies.
What inspired you to start making music? Enrolling in the composition classes with Larry Sitsky and Jim Cotter at the ANU School of Music, back in the pre-cut days.
Who are your musical heroes? Maurice Ravel, Kurt Weill, Ferruccio Busoni, Frank Zappa, more recently Flying Lotus and Daniel Dumile (MF Doom).
Three favourite songs of all time: I can't really do "of all time" - but today it's: Frank Zappa - Stinkfoot; Sly Stone - Trip to Your Heart; Beck - Earthquake Weather.
Do you have a day job? I used to - teaching piano, playing classical/jazz/pop gigs, choral direction, arrangement/composition projects. Other members of the band have many day jobs.
What is your favourite thing about Canberra? It's been a nice, quiet place to hang out, develop and work.
What is your least favourite thing about Canberra? Key parts of the city are turning into bland commercial development. I worry that this will lead to an increasingly confused, antisocial and fragmented society.
Where can we catch your next performance? Next year sometime, in Melbourne, I think. Currently recording our second release.
KoKo Black or Max Brenner? I haven't been to either of those places so I can't rightly say. I do get a coffee from Ona in Fyshwick every now and then.
