- THREE MILLS BAKERY
Formerly baking at A. Baker, Three Mills Bakery broke off as its own operation when they outgrew the New Acton space. These days, they have their own bakery and cafe out at Majura Business Park, across from Ikea. A standout? Their dark rye is made from rye flour milled in-house. You can also still get their bread from A. Baker - plus a whole host of other outlets across town.

Pick up some of Bean and Grain's fresh loaves at their bakery cafes at Fyshwick Markets and Dickson Shops - they have everything from sourdoughs to rye, spelt, lin-soy and gluten free loaves. Pick up a sneaky bagel while you're there.

- SILO BAKERY
One of the originals and still one of the best, the Kingston shops stalwart bakes up crusty, wonderfully textured bread Tuesday to Saturday. Go for the bread, but pull up a stool and stay for lunch. And maybe take a sneaky look at the pastries cabinet.

They may be most well known for their extravagant desserts, cakes and pastries, but The Flute in Fyshwick also has a back cabinet filled with their cob loaves and baguettes. Always take cash - there's no card facilities.

The Belconnen Fresh Food Markets bakery has baguettes, bagels, sourdough, light rye and multigrain cobbs, baked using organic ingredients where possible. There's also quick breakfast and lunch options, and a very tempting cabinet of sweet treats.

It's definitely a bit out of the way, but if you're headed to the coast, stop by Dojo Bread in Braidwood. The delightful aroma of the baking loaves will lead you down the laneway to the hidden bakery. Get in early in the day to avoid missing out.
