Eighteen months after they were married in London, Brian Jonmundsson and his Spanish wife Visitacion settled down in a picture theatre in Piccadilly Circus to watch a movie, when a short appeared that changed their lives.

Tug boats making their way through Sydney Harbour's vibrant blue seascape created a compelling image, as it was meant to in that 1963 federal government campaign to woo migrants to Australia.
"I just lent over across to my wife and said: 'Look, we've got to go to Australia'," Mr Jonmundsson said. He was 23 and had met Visitacion at a psychiatric hospital where they had both worked.
As they were about to disembark from the Strathmore in Sydney after a five-week journey, a group of journalists appeared, firing questions, which the couple took in their stride.
"The photographer asked me to walk up and down [the gangway] holding my wife and that's what I did, we still have a framed photograph of that. It was just amazing," Mr Jonmundsson said.
That picture remained in the mind of one of his sons, Carlos, who was on holidays three weeks ago at Byron Bay with his family, walking past a shop under renovation, when he saw it again. He recognised it instantly on pages of newspaper covering the shop windows.
Carlos and his brother contacted the National Archives of Australia, Canberra, which is using the image to promote A Ticket to Paradise? which delves into the rich diversity of migrants' experiences, and looks at promotional campaigns that presented a utopian view of Australia as a welcoming country full of opportunity.
Which raises the question, was Australia paradise for new arrivals? Indeed it was for the Jonmundssons. Opportunity arose everywhere they looked.
Australia needed male and female nurses. Mr Jonmundsson had already lined up work at the North Ryde Psychiatric Centre, then a new facility which out-shone his previous place of work in London.
Two years later he joined a Swiss pharmaceutical company promoting their medicines to psychiatrists and general practitioners around NSW's Central West, Southern Tablelands and Sydney. This required him driving across the countryside to places like Red Hill, Peak Hill, Bathurst, Orange, Goulburn and surrounding villages.
"It was wonderful. I did that for about four years, having a car, taking my wife with me on some of the journeys. Travelling around a landscape I had never seen before was so interesting," he said.
Mr Jonmundsson, who left Iceland for England when he was 17, and Visitacion maintain their affection for the places from where they came, but never once have been homesick.
"I don't think we ever had any major setbacks, and I'm not trying to be positive about it. What concerns us now is what is happening with the refugees on Manus Island. Some refugees have been given a bad time, but that is not going to send us back to the UK. That is a fact of life here."
They were contracted to stay in Australia for two years. When that time elapsed they had already moved into their home and were beginning to start a family. They have two sons and two daughters.
"There was a big demand for migrants, the program from the government was very good, getting them to work and live in Australia. I think some people went back but by and large the British who came here were very welcome," says Mr Jonmundsson.
The National Archives held a reception for the couple on Thursday, and is offering free guided tours of 'Ticket to Paradise?' up until March 9.
