Long before the Disney blockbuster came on the scene, Ekelund wore her long blonde hair in a plait, to the side, especially on her time off. Her heritage is Norwegian, which fits in with the Scandinavian flavour of Frozen.

And, wait for it, Ekelund's mum is called Elsa. We understand Ekelund's trademark long locks have come to grief in the past, cut off at the ear when she was a youngster by a young relative and years later, almost electrocuting her when, still-damp, it got caught in the motor of a leaf blower. So we hope she takes our comparison as a compliment because literally millions of young girls around the world dream every day of being the gutsy Queen of Arendelle.

We hear things are progressing on the mini-series to be filmed in Canberra based on The Mandarin Files and The Mandarin Code, by press gallery journos Chris Uhlmann and Steve Lewis.

A location manager was recently in the national capital for several days scoping out Parliament House, New Acton and the Kingston Foreshore. Stay tuned for an announcement or two from Foxtel about the political thriller in the coming days.

Turn back the toasters? 666 ABC manager Andrea Ho recently sent a terse email to staff about an "illegal toaster" smuggled into the station's Dickson headquarters. Under the subject "Toasters are now BANNED from 666", Ho wrote: "Whoever brought in the illegal toaster can claim it back from me and take it home. If it is unclaimed by 1700 it will be binned. Any future toaster that appears at 666 will be thrown out."

It wasn't stated in the email, but apparently someone burnt toast and nearly set off a fire alarm and nobody wants the firies being called out for burnt toast. But the good people of 666 can still make toast in the approved sandwich press.

Ball season is heating up in the national capital and set to kick off in fine style on Wednesday with the 2015 Midwinter Ball at Parliament House.

And we understand there may be a red carpet for the first time since the ball began in 2000. That might see an end to the slightly chaotic scenes of the past when the pollies and their partners randomly turned up in the Great Hall, sending cameras in all directions as they tried to capture the zooshed-up pollies and their dates .

We can't wait to see a little Zoolander action from our esteemed leaders. Maybe it should have been a red and green carpet seeing it's at Parliament House.

We also understand the leaders' speeches may be broadcast live for the first time. Jessica Mauboy will be performing. The next big event will be the Luton Charity Ball, the brainchild of real estate agent Richard Luton, on June 27. It will have a Venice theme and Anthony Callea will be performing. Then there's the Property Council of Australia (ACT) ball on August 7, which will have a Spanish theme. And the other big one is the Canberra Cancerians Gala Dinner on August 22.

Canberra real estate agent Jason Roses may not have won Big Brother last year but he has scored the most media runs post-BB, with the other housemates largely missing-in-action.

Roses, who is the co-director of the Gungahlin office of Luton Properties, was answering the phones alongside other Channel Nine celebrities at the recent Gold Telethon, which raised $5.2 million for the Sydney Children's Hospital, including his faves, the Today show's Karl Stefanovic and Lisa Wilkinson. He's also appeared on Channel Ten's Studio 10. We also hear he may be be auctioning off one of the properties on the next season of The Block.

"So I guess I've got my foot in the door [with television] but I'm doing real estate and a bit of that," he said.

The sumptuous-looking mini-series The Secret River starts on ABC-TV on Sunday, with one of the star's Canberra-based actor Trevor Jamieson, who plays the elder Greybeard.

Jamieson, who lives in Fisher, is originally from WA but has made the national capital his home over the last four years with his partner and the younger of his six children.

Based on Kate Grenville's novel, the mini-series tells the deeply personal story of Will (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) and Sal Thornhill (Sarah Snook), early convict colonists who lay claim to a plot of land on the then remote Hawkesbury River. Jamieson also played Greybeard in a stage production of The Secret River.

"In theatre, you're at one with the audience, you've got them in the palm of your hands. Whereas, with filming, you're looking down the barrel of a camera," he said.

"They're both different but both fun - that's the main thing."

He is passionate about telling the story of the dispossession of the Aboriginal people, revealing bigger themes through the experience of individuals.

"I think it's important to have that discussion in Australia, have we got past those bad things that happened to a lot of humans. And when I say humans, I mean black fellas," he said.

"I think this mini-series is going to raise a lot of questions."

Jamieson, 40, is also filming the futuristic drama Cleverman in Sydney alongside Game of Thrones actor Iain Glen.

"He's a very nice bloke," he told us.

The Secret River will be on the next two Sundays on ABC-TV at 8.30pm.
