Canberra's latest performance craze is Nerdlesque, a new theatre genre that unites your favourite comic book characters with the art of burlesque.

It's the brain child of Crace resident and real estate property manager Shani White (aka Bambi Rey), who decided to fuse "two of my favourite things" together to offer a new artform for Canberra's entertainment.

"I'd been reading a lot of comic books and I started burlesque classes with the Sass and Tease Collective," Shani said.

"I just put my two passions together - burlesque and geek culture - with the right venue and it's worked out really well."

Rather than perform at a traditional theatre, Shani took the first season of Nerdlesque last November directly to where she knew her fans would be: Reload Bar and Games in Civic.

She played DC comic villain Harley Quinn, complete with baseball bat, and was joined on stage by five fellow Canberra performers, including a super sexy Jessica Rabbit.

The next season of Nerdlesque, Issue #2, opens at Reload on 23 February and will include "absolutely everything" - from a crude female Deadpool and a neoclassical Captain America act to Nurse Joy reviving several Pokemon on stage.

The show will also feature gaming heroine Zelda, Hermione Granger and Poison Ivy, and will be hosted by Canberra comedian brothers Andrew and Danny Bensley.

"We put a call out to both existing burlesque performers and newcomers on Facebook so we've got some fantastic new talent," Shani said.

"This time around we're bringing characters from people's childhoods right through to current favourites to life.

"I think burlesque is just a gorgeous artform and that it'll be a big year for burlesque in Canberra."
