Perched on the hill amongst the vines at Mount Majura Vineyard, permanent luxury tent The Naked Cubby is now open for bookings.

The name doesn't refer to actual nude camping - although you're up there alone with the kangaroos, so no one's stopping you.

"It's about stripping back," said Erin Wilson, who owns the business with partner Daniel DiScipio.

"It's a bit cheeky in that the name is naked, but the naked part refers to being simple and bare and stripped back. So you don't have any technology, you're away from the world, you're in your own little hideaway."

The duo were inspired by similar experiences they had seen in other wine regions around the country.

"We both grew up in Canberra and worked in hospitality while we were at university and I actually used to work at the (Mount Majura Vineyard) cellar door for a while," Ms Wilson said.

"We came up with the idea of having accommodation on vineyards in general - just the idea of being able to go to a winery to have a lunch or have a wine tasting and then not have to leave afterwards. We approached Mount Majura Vineyard about the idea and they really loved it. So we've been working closely with them to set everything up."

The permanent five metre bell tent is tall enough to walk around in and has floorboards and a rug. To get there, it's a short walk up the hill through the vines from the Mount Majura Vineyard cellar door.

The tent has a full king-sized bed with luxury linen, and a custom-made table and armchair by Canberra furniture maker Curious Tales, plus other locally-made decorative pieces.

Visitors are encouraged to switch off from technology and instead make use of books and board games, and lap up the view down the valley and across the vines. The tent is solar-powered and includes a small fridge, and they have plans to add an old school record player. In winter, a fireplace will also be set up in the tent.

"From the bed you can only see the vines so you do that sense that you're away from the rest of it all," said Mr DiScipio.

While the tent is all about luxury, for now, there are no bathroom facilities near the tent.

"The bathrooms are down at the cellar door so you have to walk down there, but we've got a torch and the path will be lit with solar lights," said Ms Wilson. Otherwise if nature calls, you're surrounded by plenty of grass.

The Naked Cubby is available for one-night stays Thursday to Sunday nights starting from $250, which includes a breakfast hamper. You can also add a gourmet picnic hamper by local company Schmicnics, cooked by the chefs at the Boat House, and a bottle of Mount Majura wine (cost additional). There is just the one cubby for now, which sleeps a maximum of two, but they may add a second cubby on the other side of the hill in the future.
