With only two weeks until the big day, shoppers descended in their hundreds on the specialist Christmas, handmade and farmers' markets on Saturday.

The markets offered up gift ideas, stocking stuffers and sweets alongside more traditional Christmas fare.

Stalls for trees, wreaths and Christmas lights stood alongside those for board games and toys, as well as food and wine gifts for older members of the family.

The lead-up to Christmas is one of the busiest times of year for Home Made Sweet Delights' Erika Lanc.

The Hungarian-born baker spent weeks crafting intricately designed gingerbread houses and trees, a passion she has pursued for eight years.

Ms Lanc has taken part in numerous Handmade Canberra markets around Christmas and said 2016's was among the busiest.

"Last year was busy as well, but so far this year has had a lot of people," she said.

Ms Lanc said she had managed to convert people to ginger with her work.

"People like to look at the decorations on the gingerbread houses, because there's a lot of little details with the icing that I love to do," she said.

"It's hard to say how long each one takes, because it's a massive production; I'll bake a few, decorate, glue them and wrap them together, then it's back to the start."

Canberra Christmas Markets vendor Leesa Palmer said holding three markets on the same weekend had worked well for sales.

"The handmade markets are a bit busier, so when people come in here they find it's a bit calmer and find other things they think will make good gifts," she said.

Ms Palmer, who sold play dough and handmade trinkets, found Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles-themed green baubles were the best-sellers at her stall.

"The play-dough kits and lucky dips are really popular with the kids, but a lot of people in their 20s are buying the Turtles baubles," she said.

The Christmas markets will continue in the Fitzroy Building at EPIC on Sunday from 10am to 3pm.
