Claybodies

Time to immerse ourselves in all things clay and vessels at – paradoxically – Bungendore Woodworks. Nine members of the Clay Bodies Group are showing a variety of their works ranging from teensy ones only 10 centimetres to soaring, 1.5 metre long pieces, and include bowls, plates, pots, wall plaques and sculptures. The artists are inspired by all kinds of things – nature, childhood memory, utilitarian vessels and marine lifeforms. I like this description by Anne Landridge of her own work: "A clay garden pot is cooked earth housing un-cooked earth. Its aesthetic presence is completed by the plant growth it accommodates, but is also the product of my decisions about vessel form and surface treatment." Claybodies opens September 3 at Bungendore Woodworks Gallery, Kings Highway, Bungendore, and runs until October 3.
