The Tango scene

Tango and art? I smell a beautiful new exhibition! Canberra artist Lelde Vitols has been an Argentine tango dancer for 10 years and an artist for more than 30. Her new show at Suki & Hugh – the gallery's last for the year – combines her passions, with digital prints and photographic prints on canvas. In this work, she aims to "express something of the feeling and movement of dancing Argentine tango. I am interested in exploring the sense of the transcendent, that can arise during the course of dancing tango in close embrace with a partner." The show has two distinct elements – the dark and moody photographs, taken at a tango evening in Buenos Aires, and the monochromatic digital prints, made from photos of traces of her own tango dancing, on the floor in talcum powder. Tangomente, by Lelde Vitols, opens December 3 at Suki & Hugh Gallery, 38A Gibraltar Street, Bungendore, and runs until January 30.
