The encounter was filmed by Canberra man Nick McDonald-Crowley, who was out for an early morning 6am cycle when he spotted the roo up ahead on the bridge.
"I was riding north on the bridge and the jogger was coming from the south - he was American and he was freaking out," Nick said.
"He just kept saying 'I can't believe it, I can't believe it' and I said 'you don't see that very often - trust me!'"
Nick - a former world champion rower - said he was used to kangaroos swimming around and underneath his boat during early morning rows on Lake Burley Griffin, but running into one on the bridge was unheard of.
"He [the roo] was a bit lost but managed to bound back down and get off the bridge near Lennox Crossing," he said.
Nick's 20-second video of the encounter - posted to his Facebook page on Sunday night - has so far been viewed 2200 times.
As a friend of Nick's cheekily commented on: "They'll probably get their own lane [on the bridge] soon!"
