"The most peculiar thing about the German is his food, and we are told in every fresh message from Berlin of the implacable, unparalleled hatred the portly German is now developing for England. So surely the one must have something to do with the other.
"It is mostly uncooked : — A mixed salad of raw cabbage, cucumber, potatoes and beetroots soaked in oil. Uncooked smoked salmon, herrings or sprats. Raw herrings in vinegar. Uncooked smoked ham and pickled cabbage. Uncooked smoked goose breast. Blood sausage. Brain Sausage. Decaying cabbage pickled in vinegar.
"I quote only a few of the cheery dishes in which the German rejoices, the delicacies upon which he feeds his hatred. No wonder the poor fellow feels annoyed with someone, and the someone at the moment is England. When the German has had a really good feast of blood sausage and raw ham how he can hate. Ugh!"
