Where to celebrate New Year's Eve 2017 in Canberra

- The official Canberra New Year's celebrations start from 7pm in Civic Square. Electronic duo Art Vs Science headline an evening of live music, which also includes locals Brass Knuckle Brass Band and Harry Carman, and there will be food trucks, and plenty of entertainment for the kids. One of the best vantage spots to watch the fireworks at both 9pm and then at midnight. Free entry, and the event is all ages, alcohol-free and glass-free.

- Hyatt Hotel Canberra (120 Commonwealth Ave, Yarralumla) will be celebrating again. Choose from a buffet dinner in the rose courtyard followed by live music from 7.30pm ($220 per person) or a buffet dinner and three hour beverage package from 6pm (adults $160, children $110). - From 9pm at the city celebrations, things will kick up a notch at Bass In The Place in Garema Place. The dance party has a lineup of DJs hitting the decks and playing all the way up until the fireworks at midnight. Free entry. All ages, alcohol-free and glass-free.

- Channel your inner '80s pop star at 88mph (Basement 8/10 Hobart Pl, Canberra) where they're counting down from 88 to 1 of the best '80s hits (you can vote on the night). Doors open from 4pm, $30 cover charge from 7pm ($20 pre-sale at 88mph.bar).

- At QT Canberra (1 London Circuit, Canberra) you can choose to welcome in the new year on the ground floor at Lucky's Speakeasy from 8pm ($99 per person for a two hour drink package) or head to the top floor for a party with sweeping views over Canberra ($195 per person including drinks and canapes). - As always, Mooseheads (105 London Circuit, Canberra) will do their 'cash drop' at midnight with $2000 released from the roof onto the dance floor when the clock strikes midnight. Doors from 9pm, get in early to line up.

- Cube (City Walk, Canberra) will turn into a circus for the night with face painting, balloon making, free jelly shots on arrival and DJs all night. Free entry.
