Glen Vandervord, 33, maintained pleas of not guilty when he appeared before the ACT Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
Magistrate Peter Dingwall remanded Vandervord in custody and committed him to stand trial in the ACT Supreme Court on 28 charges, including sexual intercourse, attempted sexual intercourse and committing acts of indecency.
Vandervord has been in custody since July after he was arrested when the girl told her mother of the alleged abuse.
Court documents alleged the defendant showed the girl pornography and assaulted her on four or five occasions between 2012 and 2013.
The defendant allegedly gave the girl a sex toy in May.
Vandervord is accused of bathing with the girl, touching her and asking her to touch him and later attempted to use a sex toy on her.
He allegedly told the girl the incident was their secret and warned her not to tell anyone.
On another occasion, he is alleged to have shown the girl pornographic videos of men and women having intercourse.
Vandervord will appear in the higher court for directions in March.
