Developer Nik Bulum has confirmed he has bought the Canberra City Bowling Club site in Braddon, promising he won't be building high-rise apartments on the site but will instead seek to create a "village-within-a-suburb".
"I'm open to sitting down with the community and getting feedback but it's not going to be a high-rise apartment block, no, they don't have to fear that," he said.
"I'm living next door so the last thing I want is a five-storey apartment building looking down on me."

Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart says the club will aggressively enter the marketplace for a top quality prop after revealing a one-year extension was the best case scenario they could offer Gold Coast Titans-bound David Shillington.
Shillington announced on Wednesday he will join the Titans on a two-year deal from next season, but the Raiders were deliberating whether to retain him for 2016.

8:18am: Pialligo Avenue's Queanbeyan-bound lanes, which were closed from Brindabella Circuit earlier this morning due to a crash, have been reopened.
Police say a car and a motorcycle collided at the roundabout - it appears the bike slipped on some ice. But the motorcyclist is OK.
8:13am: Good news, morning commuters. The Pialligo Avenue crash near the airport and Brindabella Business Park has been cleared.
7:59am: Heading to Brindabella Business Park, Queanbeyan or the airport? Expect delays or find an alternate route.
It appears a motorbike might have slipped on some ice on Pialligo Avenue at Brindabella Circuit, police say. But there are reports of two vehicles involved. Police say traffic is very slow in the area but luckily, there doesn't appear to be any injuries.
7:52am: Heading to work via Pialligo Avenue? Expect delays. There's been a crash near the airport. It's closed the Queanbeyan-bound lanes from the Brindabella Circuit roundabout.

Canberra firefighter Lloyd O'Keeffe regards his workmates as his second family - and they were there for him at his darkest moment.
Mr O'Keeffe and his wife Lara lost their second-born child, Lachlan, in September, 2013, when he was still-born at 37 weeks, sending their "world crashing down".
"Leaving the hospital without Lachlan is the hardest thing we've ever had to do," he said.
