It is now more than 10 cents a litre cheaper to fill-up your car with petrol in Sydney and Melbourne, as Canberra missed out on declining petrol prices for the second week in a row.

The national average price of unleaded petrol fell by 1.7c a litre to 152.3c last week, according to the Australian Institute of Petroleum.
Yet in Canberra petrol prices remained effectively stagnant, with only a 0.1c decline.
The average price at the pump is 157.9c a litre in Canberra, which is more expensive than the average in Sydney (147.7c), Melbourne (146.7c), Brisbane, Adelaide or Perth.
Regional areas in Australia experienced a 0.6c fall in prices, while metropolitan cities enjoyed an average drop of 2.2c a litre.
Petrol prices have been volatile over the past month with the national average price falling by 3.4c a litre only to jump by 5c and then fall by 3.6c and 1.6c consecutively.
CommSec economist Savanth Sebastian said this volatility is due to vagaries of the discounting cycle and predicted fuel prices will ease by 1-2c in coming weeks.
“There are better days ahead, with motorists set to reap the benefits of world oil prices that are edging lower and an Australian dollar that has lifted – a double whammy, that should lead to savings at the pump,” he said.
