Petrol prices hit an eight-month low nationally, but Canberra is still one of only three capitals paying more than $1.50 a litre on average, according to an analysis of the latest Australian Institute of Petroleum figures.

At 155.7 cents a litre, Canberra drivers are paying 7.4c a litre more than the national average of 148.3c, and only Darwin (173c/L) and Hobart (160.5c/L) drivers pay more at the pump.
Canberra petrol dropped a meagre 0.1 cent last week, while Sydney (down 3c), Adelaide (down 11c) and Perth (down 2.5c) saw prices drop. Prices were up in Melbourne (0.6c) and Brisbane (4.1c).
Figures from MotorMouth show prices in Melbourne and Brisbane hit the peak levels in the discounting cycle in the past few days.
In Sydney, petrol prices have fallen for 28 days and Adelaide petrol prices are near the lows, having fallen for 15 days.
The national average price comes as the wholesale price continues to slide, hitting the lowest it has been since November 2013 on Monday at 136.3c a litre, down about 2.5c over the previous week.
In Australian dollar terms the Singapore gasoline price rose last week by 0.6 per cent last week to 77.14 cents a litre.
