Canberra girl April, a student of St Francis of Assisi Primary School, is one of the youngest contestants in this year's Miss Country Girl Australia model search.
She will travel to Goulburn on Saturday for the heats at the Centro Mall.
April admires Kerr, a Victoria's Secret Angel and runway regular for David Jones, so much that she did a school project on her. ''Miranda Kerr came from the country. I just want to be like her because she's such an inspiration to me,'' April said.
''She's not like other models. She's not stuck up; she's down-to-earth, just really genuine.''
April wants to follow Kerr's footsteps and aspires to model for lingerie label Victoria's Secret one day. April's mother Kim said, ''She does want to do that when she's older. Way older.''
Miss Country Girl Australia is a national model search. The contest for women and girls promises to take regional and rural beauties and ''transform them from a country girl into a supermodel''.
National finalists will be selected for the grand final in Sydney and could secure representation with a modelling agency.
As April explains, the contest involves ''judging your personality, your looks, how you walk, a lot of that stuff''.
She said being judged for how she looked wouldn't hurt her confidence because ''when you get judged and don't succeed, it makes you stronger and more determined to try again''.
Beauty pageants, especially those for children, have attracted criticism.
April said, ''This isn't a beauty pageant. This is more about modelling. Beauty pageants ... [are] fake. This is real. It's more about trying and having fun.
''It's not inappropriate. You still get to be a kid.''
Child models have also attracted criticism for doing too much too soon. Thylane Blondeau, 10, appeared in French Vogue in adult poses; it was suggested she was being exploited.
April's mother Kim said in response to critics of child models, ''If it's something the child wants to do, and if they have that talent, no one should be held back from their dream.''
April's hopes are sky high.
''It's the start of something big and important. I could be a famous model, maybe.''
