Student bodies at Canberra universities are arguing not enough is being done to prevent incidents of sexual assault and harassment on campus.

The calls come as the first nationwide survey of students on sexual-assault levels at universities was launched this week by Universities Australia and the Human Rights Commission.
The anonymous survey, which starts in September, aims to provide data on the level of sexual assaults at 39 universities across the country.
While the survey will also provide information to universities on how to offer support to victims, student organisations say current systems in place are inadequate.
Women's Officer for the Australian National University Students' Association Linnea Burdon-Smith said procedures on reporting sexual assault had to change.
"At ANU we have a more progressive administration than others, but not enough is being done," she said.
"There needs to be more done to reform our reporting procedures and policies so they support survivors and ensure academic disciplinary action can be taken against perpetrators."
Ms Burdon-Smith has been working with the team behind the roll-out of the survey since the end of 2015 and said it has been a "long time coming".
"Universities have previously refused to conduct such a survey, indicating either that they didn't believe sexual assault was an issue on their campus or they didn't want to damage their reputation," she said.
University of Canberra student association president, Nawaf Ibrahim, said the problem lies with a lack of information available to students.
"Although steps are in place, there is definitely more that could be done to target students, especially students who live on campus," he said.
"The survey and the subsequent report on it will help identify how better to support students."
A previous study carried out in 2015 by the National Union of Students found that 75 per cent of people who responded were a victim of sexual harassment and 25 per cent were sexually assaulted.
The timing of the national survey comes a month after five students at ANU's John XXIII College were expelled after allegedly taking images of students' breasts and rating them on Facebook.
A total of 14 students at the college were disciplined in relation to the incident.
A spokesman for ANU said the university is committed to stopping sexual harassment on campus, with measures already in place.
"[ANU] is the only Australian university where independent residential colleges are obliged to report any harassment," the spokesman said.
"The university has also implemented measures to ensure support is available for anyone reporting sexual harassment or unwanted sexual attention."
University of Canberra's Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor Frances Shannon said the survey findings will be used to help improve existing policies.
"We have a zero tolerance approach to sexual harassment or assault and welcome an initiative that will allow us to continue to improve our policies and practices to prevent these issues," she said.
The findings from the survey will be released in early 2017.
