Next week she will be able to tick off the pinnacle of hairstyling experiences - New York Fashion Week - as she has been handpicked as one of 10 Australian stylists to work the shows for Aussie designers sass & bide.
Not bad for a 26-year-old from Wagga Wagga who ventured to Canberra at 18 with the hopes of doing something arty and creative with her life.
Ms Brown considered enrolling at the Australian National University's School of Art, but said she needed to see a career path ahead of her and the family-run Cataldo's Salon, which turns 50 next year, provided that.
The salon also provided her with an outlet for her creative passions, sending her to Sydney Fashion Week as an observer when she was still an apprentice and equipping her with the skills to take the blow dryer and scissors as a stylist in almost record time just a few years later.
She has now been selected by Haircare Australia to spend a week in New York, with her catwalk styling to be exposed to a global market.
''Of course I'm nervous, but I think that's a good thing to be at this stage,'' she said.
By now used to the adrenalin-fuelled hours preceding each show, she was particularly thrilled to be collaborating with Sarah-Jane Clarke (sass) and Heidi Middleton (bide) as she loved their aesthetic.
Sass & bide opened its New York flagship store last year, following 20 boutiques across Australia and New Zealand.
''One of my dreams when I started hairdressing was to work at Fashion Week, and the high fashion and editorial side of the industry really appealed to me from the beginning,'' Ms Brown said.
Director of Cataldo's Salon, Angelo Cataldo, said the master stylist deserved the invitation to New York.
''She gives so much to her craft, she is dedicated to the salon and the industry, and above all else she strives to share what she learns with others. She has definitely earned it.''
As well as working on styling at Fashion Week, Ms Brown will take part in workshops with international stylists Renya Xydis, Gregorio Ruggeri and Lauren McCowen.
She said Xydis and McCowen provided strong female role models in an industry dominated - at the top end - by men.
Ms Brown drew inspiration for her styles from almost all aspects of her life - the street, art, and music - and she noted how social media was bringing new trends into focus almost immediately.
''You can see what styles are coming out of New York, or Paris or Milan within seconds now on Instagram, rather than waiting weeks for a glossy magazine to be published.''
She promises to Instagram her New York experience on the cataldos_salon account so Canberrans can get instant access to New York Fashion Week through the eyes of one of its own.
