Heavy rainfall meant it was necessary to open one gate to let out excess water from the Molongolo River, the Territory and Municipal Services Directorate and ACT Emergency Services Agency said.
The release of water from the dam prompted safety warnings that there could be sudden water level rises downstream that could possibly affect a number of low level crossings of the Molongolo River.
The public has been warned to avoid crossings south of the dam as well as storm water drains, ponds, lakes and flooded cycle ways.
Sunday's wet weather also led to the closure of Oaks Estate Crossing, the unsealed section of Boboyan Road, Angle Crossing and Sunshine Crossing.
Motorists are reminded to take care and drive to the weather conditions and not cross flooded low level crossings.
