Volkswagen may literally translate as the people's car and the PM might like a Holden (or since this year, a BMW), but in Canberra it's another brand which comes out comfortably ahead for popularity.

Toyota has remained the city's most registered car - with nearly 47,000 of the Japanese-owned company's product found in ACT garages.
Holden came in second, with 32,527, with Fords next with 27,576 cars registered last week.
For veteran Toyota enthusiast and salesman Kevin Bramboeck, it was the vehicle's reliability which endeared it to the capital's drivers.
"It's just the reliability and the safety," he said.
"We get people crying when they trade it in - a lot of the cars are 10 to 12 years old and the only reason they trade in is because it doesn't have the modern safety features."
Mr Bramboeck bought his first Toyota - an FJ40 Landcruiser - in 1993, four years before his career selling the vehicles began.
He was now one of 1804 Kambah residents who owned the make, which made it Canberra's easiest suburb to find a Toyota.
Several members of his extended family and close neighbours had shared the passion.
"People who buy Toyotas don't buy cars - they don't care if it's not the prettiest thing around, or if it's the fastest," he said.
"You get Toyotas that are handed down the generation."
Two more Japanese-owned cars, Mazda and Mitsubishi, rounded out the top five. BMWs were the city's mosty popular prestige car, and 11th overall, with 5799 registered.
There were 4456 registered Mercedes Benzs, the 13th most popular make.
Volkswagen came in 10th, with 12,728 registered.
There were 65 makes, including a Monteverdi, an MT and a Hupmobile, which had only one registered vehicle in the ACT.
Honda produced Canberra's most popular motorbike, with 2247 registered, beating out Kawasaki by more than 700.
Last February, Toyota announced it would cease production of the vehicles, Australia's most popular, in 2017.
