A suburb that’s billed as the reinvention of the great Australian dream has been named Property Development of the Year at the ACT Property Council awards.

CIC Australia’s vision and delivery of the Gungahlin suburb of Crace has won the company the award at the 2014 Innovation and Excellence Awards held at Parliament House on Friday.
It is the second award for the year for the team behind the suburb. They also won the RPS Award for Best Master Planned Community at the Property Council of Australia’s national awards in May.
The suburb was the first in Australia to achieve GreenSmart accreditation in recognition of its sustainability initiatives, including cutting-edge water-sensitive urban design.
The Crace master plan features 35 hectares of green space, including the 7.5-hectare Hilltop Reserve.
The suburb was the result of the collaborative efforts of the Crace Joint Venture, which consisted of the Land Development Agency and the consortium Crace Developments.
CIC Australia was lead partner and project manager of the consortium.
Property Council ACT executive director Catherine Carter said the judges awarded the company’s efforts to retain the best elements of suburbia, such as space, safety and serenity, and align it with the desirable elements of inner-city living.
“Crace sets a new benchmark for industry innovation and CIC Australia has been rewarded for delivering the highest levels of community, sustainability and amenity,” she said.
Hindmarsh Development Australia was awarded the ACT Property Business of the Year Award for a 40-year commitment to quality, customer service and the people of Canberra.
The judges’ notes said the company had defied the economic climate and successfully completed two residential subdivisions and almost 1000 residential apartments, retirement units and commercial tenancies in the past five years.
ACT Property Professional of the Year was presented to Meyer Vandenberg Lawyers' managing director, Archie Tsirimokos.
ACT Future Leader of the Year went to Chris Miller, who is the national director of business development for Civium Strata. Point Project Management principal Chris Collins was presented with the Executive Director’s Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Property Council.
