Dan Tarasenko and Zachary Sequoia from Crowd Carnivore want the single men of Canberra to cook for their dates – so they're making it as easy as they can.
Say hello to the Bachelor Box, a 15-litre styrofoam portable cool box delivered to your door and filled with fresh local ingredients, ready to cook and serve. Think marinated butterfly lamb, grilled eggplant and a delicious Greek salad.
The Bachelor Box comes as a special occasion box or in simple everyday boxes packed with kebabs, stir-fry mixes, chops, and the ingredients for a slow-cooked stew.
"The beef comes from Bombala and the lamb from Oberon," Tarasenko said.
He said Canberra will be a crucial test market for the new Bachelor Box, with a courier network already set up and ready to deliver to every suburb and town in the ACT region.
"If people try it, love it and re-order, that's a massive win for us," he said.
The Bachelor Box is one of three new "convenient and nutritious" food delivery products about to be launched by Crowd Carnivore – the other two services include the aptly-named Busy Mum Box and the Student Box.
"The Student Box is designed to keep people studying away from ramen noodles," Tarasenko laughed.
Tarasenko and Sequoia, both entrepreneurs with long careers in digital innovation, both live on the NSW south coast and met through a real estate industry project in 2013. Together they launched Crowd Carnivore, a unique crowdfunding platform that allows users to join 'buying clubs' to purchase local grass-fed beef and lamb directly from farmers.
"There is a shift in the the way people want to buy and eat their food," Sequoia said.
"People want to know where their meat is coming from.
"We're seeing more and more consumers looking for hormone and antibiotic-free, grass-fed, locally-grown meat … and you just aren't able to find that at the big two supermarkets.
"We wanted to make it easier for foodies in more urban areas to access such high quality meat, while keeping the carbon footprint to a minimum."
The Bachelor Box will be available online from early December.
