A new school, half a dozen sporting fields and more than 840 dwellings will mark the first stage of construction in one of Canberra's next suburbs if a development application is approved.

Engineering firm Indesco has submitted designs on behalf of the Land Development Agency for the first part of Taylor, a suburb that will sit north of Moncrieff, west of Jacka and north-east of Casey in the Gungahlin district.
The plans propose the creation of 531 single-dwelling blocks and room for 310 units spread across 14 medium-density blocks in what will eventually make up the south-western portion of the suburb.
The eastern third of the 102-hectare proposal features a large block with six sporting fields and an adjoining car park. An area zoned for a preschool to year 10 school is located just south of the fields.
Six bus stop sites have been suggested in the plan, as well as an extension to the Bicentennial National Trail around the outside of the overall suburb.
According to the Estate Development Plan report, the area "represents approximately 25 per cent of the proposed yield for the whole estate".
Land releases are expected to begin in the area around the fields and school, moving progressively westward in a three-stage plan.
LDA chief executive David Dawes said the timing of the development application aligned with the expected timeframe of the suburb's indicative land release program.
He said the make-up of the remaining stages of Taylor were still being determined.
"A part of Taylor depends on a water reservoir being constructed by ICON Water, so the co-ordination of DAs for estate design needs to take account of when this becomes operational," he said.
"As the design elements come together, a decision on whether it is one or several DAs will be made."
Once all stages have been lodged and completed, Taylor will stretch across 317 hectares and will come close to straddling the NSW border.
The development application is open for public comment until March 24 and can be seen on the Environment and Planning Directorate's website.
A separate application has been lodged for three signalled intersections along Horse Park Drive between Moncrieff and Taylor. Public comment for that application closes on March 17.
Taylor was first earmarked for development in 2013 alongside Moncrieff, Jacka, Kenny and Throsby.
The last single residential land release in neighbouring Moncrieff happened in November last year, while development applications have been lodged for multi-unit buildings in the suburb.
