It saw the first ascent of Everest, the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II, Watson and Crick's announcement of the discovery of the double-helix structure of DNA, Patti Page's How Much Is That Doggie In The Window deservedly being Top of the Pops, Marilyn Monroe appearing nude in the first edition of Playboy magazine, the discovery that Piltdown Man was a fake and (a roll of parochial drums) the opening of Turner School.
