A development application has been submitted for Molonglo's first shopping centre and an auction will be held next month to sell off land for the valley's first service station.
The service station site, along Cotter Road, also allows for a restaurant and/or takeaway shop to be built.
Developer Renato Cervo, meanwhile, hopes to have the valley's first shopping centre open by winter, pending the approval of a development application for the project in the emerging suburb of Coombs.
Mr Cervo visited the site of his proposed shopping centre development on Friday as wind stirred up the dust on the vacant block skirted by Fred Daly Avenue, Blackmore Street and Fairhall Street.
The application to ACTPLA is for a 1000-square metre supermarket and 1500 square metres of retail space, as well as car parking.
Mr Cervo said he had received interest from potential lessees wanting to operate an Italian restaurant, Turkish restaurant, chemist and beauty salon on the site, although nothing had yet been decided.
He bought the land for $2.7 million and expected the development to cost another $2.5 million and, if approved, be finished by June or July.
ACTPLA is accepting representations about the proposed development until November 6.
Meanwhile, the LDA said the nearly 7000 square metre service station site along Cotter Road would be auctioned on its behalf by Raine and Horne on November 25 at Telstra Tower.
"This site is easily accessible from the Tuggeranong Parkway and will service a readily available base in Weston Creek, Coombs and Wright. Its potential is only set to increase with continual growth in the Molonglo Valley region," promotional material for the sale said.
WSL Investments Pty Ltd in March bought an almost 9000 square metre site in Coombs to develop a community hub including a 120-place childcare centre and a community centre. It paid $4 million for the land.
