The Emergency Services Agency said a woman was taken to hospital for assessment after mild smoke inhalation.
Firefighters were at the Cape Street laundromat on Tuesday morning clearing smoke. No-one needed to be evacuated, and firefighters expected to leave the scene shortly, they said at 8.30am.
An employee discovered the smoke on opening the business.
