Jamie Michael Richardson, 23 of Ngunnawal, is facing three criminal charges over the fatal crash in February 1 this year. The car he was driving left the road on William Slim Drive in McKellar about 1.30am. It crashed head-on into a tree.
A 29-year-old man, sitting in the rear left hand side of the car, was killed. His death was the first on ACT roads in 2014.
A female passenger suffered serious injuries and two other occupants, including the driver, suffered minor injuries.
Richardson is facing three charges of culpable driving causing death, culpable driving causing grievous bodily harm and drink driving.
The case came before the ACT Magistrates Court for the first time on Thursday morning. Richardson did not appear, but his lawyer Peter Woodhouse entered pleas of not guilty to all charges on his behalf.
The case will be back in court on October 9.
